australia.coop was originally established in 2003 by the Co-operative Federation of Victoria Ltd (Co-operatives Victoria). In establishing australia.coop, Co-operatives Victoria hoped that eventually the web site would be run by and for the Australian co-operative movement.

Co-operatives Australia has agreed to assume responsibility for australia.coop from October 2009. Co-operatives Australia is the national body for State Co-operative Federations. It is an unincorporated body with membership by the Co-operative Federations of New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia, and represents co-operatives in every sector of the Australian economy.

As a consequence, Co-operatives Victoria has now established this new web site: http://www.victoria.coop

australia.coop Relaunched

Written by David Griffiths Wednesday, 15 April 2009 21:17

The australia.coop web site has been redesigned incorporating the open source software Joomla. The site was originally established in January 2003 - the first Dot Coop country portal.

Key features of the redesign include a searchable and dynamic calendar, website accessibility, the capacity to email and pdf content, an RSS feed and two new sub-domains - Co-operative Education and Co-operative Health.

The site also incorporates a new logo for Co-operatives Victoria.

Wherever possible, the pages on the site have been designed to meet the Level-AA standard of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines published by the World Wide web Consortium (W3C).

Another feature of the site is a Co-operative Governance email newsletter to provide site updates for subscribers to the newsletter. The Co-operative Education and Co-operative Health sub-domains also have newsletters.
